Uttar Pradesh Reforms and Governance Summit

Country’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh with around 200 million consumer base contributes almost 8 per cent to India’s GDP. The agrarian economy which often plays instrumental role in deciding political future of the world’s biggest democracy is riding on industrialization and urbanisation to give an impetus to its economy. The state is progressing at a significant pace and striving to create more jobs for its youth by attracting investment from the corporates.

The government is also committed to create investor friendly atmosphere and bring the state at par with other fastestgrowing states. However, in order to achieve this dream, the state machinery needs to take a slew of serious measures. It can be gauged by the fact that the UP government during the recently held Delhi Investors Conclave successfully managed to convincecorporates to invest Rs 54,000 crore in the State. It somehow instilled a sense of trust among the corporates in the UP government.

Chief Minister AkhileshYadav-led government is focusing on some of the major sectors like healthcare, education, industry, urban and rural development and smart citiesamong others to bring prosperity in the State.After the Centre choose Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi and Noida to be developed as smart cities under its flagship Smart City programme, the State government has bolstered its efforts of transforming these cities into a world class one.

It is imperative to mention here that recently ASSOCHAM attributed improving law and order situation, power supply and availability of trained manpower as the reasons behind State’s emergence as fast developing manufacturing hub for medical equipment. Besides, ASSOCHAM has also estimated thatnumber of foreign tourists may go up to 28 lakh by 2017 from 20 lakh in 2013 in UP.

UP Government is also targeting on renewable energy in the 12th plan with an investment of 1.15 billion USD in power projects.About USD 3.15 billion in transmission and USD 2.68 billion in the distribution sector would be invested by the UP government.

Governance Now Uttar Pradesh Reforms and Governance Conclave is a platform to highlight various reforms initiated by the State government. While highlighting the state’s achievement it will emphasize on the plans and roadmap of building Next generation Uttar Pradesh.

The conclave is tailored to focus on reforms like Education, Skills Development and Employment, Tourism, Power, Healthcare, MSMEs, Good Governance Through e-Governance and Inclusive development

11:30 AM – 11:40 AM	Upgrading Power infrastructure Power plays extremely crucial in any State’s progress. Even as the State government has managed to improve power scenario in the state, a lot is yet to be done in Uttar Pradesh to improve its economy
11:40 AM – 11:50 AM	Integrating Education, Skill Development and Employment Education and employment are the biggest need of the largest populated state of the country. Government needs to initiate some major projects to strengthen education system and create more jobs for the youths
11:50 AM – 12:00 PM	Strengthening Hea¬lthcare Infrastructure Healthcare sector is the backbone of any State’s progress. However, UP Government is envisioning improving healthcare services in the state.
12:00 PM – 12:10 PM	Rail and Roads Infrastructure UP is one of the few States in the country, which has got finest rail and road network. But the sector needs major revamp to further consolidate the transport domain to give a boost to its economy.
12:10 PM – 12:20 PM	Strengthening economy through tourism UP is conspicuously blessed with many natural destinations. By tapping tourism industry, the State can surely generate a lot of revenue, create jobs and attract foreign and domestic tourists.
12:20 PM – 12:30 PM	Consolidating MSMEs Uttar Pradesh is a hub of MSMEs but several major initiatives need to be taken by the Government to help people prosper and grow.
12:30 PM – 01:00 PM	Panel Discussion: Executing Smart Cities Plan in the State UP is the only State whose 13 cities have been chosen for the Smart City initiative of the GoI. Both the State and Centre need to ensure seamless development of the 13 selected cities to ensure rapid development of the State
01:00 PM – 01:30 PM	Panel Discussion: Smart Policing for improving Law and order With the advancement of technology, smart policing has become the need of the hour. UP Police has to gear itself to exploit technology to the next level to prevent crime and ensure peace in the State
01:30 PM – 02:00 PM	Panel Discussion: Good Governance through e-Governance UP Government has taken umpteen numbers of initiatives including e-governance. More and more such initiatives ensure rapid development and quick delivery of citizen centric services
