Country’s most populous state Uttar Pradesh is not only famous for its cultural legacy, political importance and history but is also extremely important for driving the nation’s economy.
The newly-formed government is making efforts to put Uttar Pradesh on the fast track of development by transforming key sectors, including industry, agriculture, law and order, health, education, information technology and infrastructure.
Despite having potential, the state lagged behind in creating better education, healthcare and agriculture infrastructure. Because of this, the incumbent government wants to leave no stone unturned to ensure rapid development and give a boost to infrastructure.
A large border state, with a total geographical area of 2,40,928 sq km, accounting for about 7.3 per cent of the total geographical area of the country, requires more attention than any other state primarily due to massive population.
Agricultural workforce accounts for 66 percent of the total work force in Uttar Pradesh, thus agriculture remains the backbone of the state and requires an overhaul. The figures of agricultural census 2000-01 show, 76.9 percent landholdings in Uttar Pradesh were in the size less than one hectare. Thus, 75.4 per cent of the total holdings were of the marginal size.
According to industry body, Assocham’s report, Uttar Pradesh is performing well on many sectors like economic growth, infrastructure and labour productivity and is likely to clock a double digit growth in a few years. Sectors like transport, storage, communication and broadcasting have seen growth pick up over the last few years but a lot is yet to be achieved.
Keeping the importance of Uttar Pradesh’s role in the country’s development in mind, Governance Now is organising Uttar Pradesh Reforms in Governance Summit 2017 in Lucknow in July.
The summit is aimed at discussing key issues posing challenge to the government in transforming the state. In order to make this summit a huge successful event, emphasis has been laid on to bring relevant stakeholders from corporate and government at one platform.
With a young leader in Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh hopes of becoming one of the top performing states in the country.
Yogi Adityanath-led government has already taken many crucial decisions like loan waiver of farmers, providing 24X7 electricity, holding Janata Durbar to address public grievances, ban on cow smuggling and slaughter houses among others. We believe its just the beginning of making Uttar Pradesh ‘Uttam Pradesh’.
